I believe there are three things that make someone a good writer: reading, writing and thinking. It doesn’t happen by itself, but it also doesn’t need to be difficult. It could be something as simple as jotting down a thought you had in the shower and leaving it in your notes. As long as it’s you, that’s all that matters. There’s no one kind of writer. There are poets, journalists, screenwriters, and so many more.
“It’s bigger in your mind. Once you say it, it gets smaller.”
Jane Villanueva (Jane the Virgin)
Personally, I find that I sound better on paper, or through written words compared to spoken words. I won’t lie and say that putting my bare thoughts out in public doesn’t scare me because I’m used to keeping things to myself. I observe quietly from the sidelines and talk to myself about the events of my day or what’s going on in the book I’m reading. When I talk about the things I’m excited about, I get embarrassed that I’m being too expressive.

The best way I make sense to myself is through written words. Often times it becomes a must, like if I don’t organize mmy thoughts right that second, my head might explode. A bit dramatic, I know, but that’s the best way for me to explain it. I could be out shopping or watching a movie in the theater, and when I’m struck with a story idea or an important thought, I have to log it somewhere immediately so that I don’t lose it.
Long story short: Welcome to my mind.
I don’t remember when exactly I started writing, but this act became a recurrent habit until it evolved into a hobby. It became an action I didn’t even need to think about doing, or something I had to remind myself to do. They were not always elaborate or insightful. Sometimes even writing something like “You’ll be ok” in my notes was good enough for me.
