“You wrote 100 pages in under two months? How is that possible?”
Believe me, I don’t know either, BUT I’ve been having so much fun writing it.
Surprise surprise! I’m writing another book… I don’t know whether I should sigh or cheer because the first one’s not going too well at the moment. Before I get ahead of myself, let me explain what it’s about.
It’s called The Scarlett Files, and no, that’s not a typo. The main character’s name is Anastasia, and she works as an undercover assassin under the name Scarlett Daggerhart. She works through an undercover agency called “Black Veil” that’s set in Chicago.
The book starts with her getting a new mission. Except it’s not new. Her target, Damien Hawthorne, has remained her target for the past two years, and she just. can’t. catch. him. No matter how many traps she sets for him, he always dodges them and sabotages her missions instead. Every single time. He’s been playing with her for 2 years, but finally, she manages to catch him and quickly discovers that the man she’s been trying to catch, is none other than her husband… Lucas Sterling.
See, this causes a lot of confusion for our FMC (Female Main Character) because how could her target also be her husband? They’re two completely different people! They act different, sound different, and even smell different.
Sidenote: They both wear different colognes.
Which I think is pure genius on my part. I’m so proud of myself for coming up with that.
This plot point is established early in the book, in chapter 7, so it’s not that big of a spoiler. She also finds that he was working in the same agency as her, just under a different name. Anyways, they’re paired together and go on multiple missions/assignments to “eliminate” their targets, and it takes Scarlett time to accept the fact that the man she’s working with, IS ALSO THE MAN SHE’S MARRIED TO.
As compared to My Future King, the romance is present right at the beginning, so I don’t have to work much on the relationship building. While it’s been refreshing for my friends to read, it’s been so refreshing to write. I get to work with new situations and scenarios. I get to use words like “assignment/operation/mission” or “dagger/blade/firearm”. I’ve been enjoying this book because it’s more plot focused rather than romance focused, which keeps the story moving constantly.
I started on February 10th and just on April 5th, I reached 100 pages! By Feb 14th, I’d already written 21 pages. Mind you, that’s 21 pages in FOUR DAYS. I’ve never written so much so fast before, and I’m not even on a deadline. What impresses me is the fact that I had little to no notes before I started writing Chapter 1. With the content and I planning I started for this, I quickly realized that this couldn’t be just be a story, but a book I’d like to publish in the future. But, of course, I plan to finish and publish My Future King first.
What keeps me motivated is reading each finished chapter to my friend. As soon as I finish the chapter, I quickly shoot her a text stating “I just finished Chapter __!” Then, as I read it to her, we laugh and complain about our favorite parts.
I don’t care if no one likes this book. There’s never been a bigger smile on my face than when I have this story document open on my laptop.
I’m writing it just for me.
And my friend : )
